Christ the Redeemer

Christ the Redeemer

Christ the Redeemer, or Cristo Redentor in Portuguese, is an overwhelming statue of Jesus Christ with his arms outstretched, an image of peace that stands just about 40 meters high. The statue is roosted above Rio de Janeiro, on the 700-meter high Corcovado mountain. It offers marvelous perspectives of downtown Rio de Janeiro, the sound, Sugarloaf Mountain, Copacabana shoreline, and Ipanema Beach. The statue of Jesus with his open arms appears to welcome the guests. The space between his arms from fingertip to fingertip is 28 meters. There is a little church placed in the base of the statue. The church has the ability to oblige around 150 individuals. The Christ the Redeemer statue was initiated upon the arrival of Aparecida, October 12, 1931, by then President of Brazil, Getulio Vargas and Cardinal Dom Sebastiao Leme.
