Etymology

The name of the city "Paris" is originated from its early occupants, the Celtic Parisii tribe. Thus, though written the same, the city's name is not interconnected to the Paris of Greek mythology.
Paris is often indicated to as "The City of Light" (La Ville Lumière), both because of its leading role during the Age of Enlightenment, and more factually because Paris was one of the first European cities to embrace gas street lighting. In the 1860s, the avenues and streets of Paris were lightened by 56,000 gas lamps. Since the late 19th century, Paris has also been known as Panam
